NLEX's Alas earns Player of the Week honors

MANILA, Philippines – NLEX guard Kevin Alas emerged as the first PBA Press Corps Player of the Week in the season-ending Governors Cup after he served as the catalyst for the Road Warriors' 2-0 start to the conference.

The 6-foot guard out of Colegio de San Juan de Letran kicked off NLEX's campaign with a 20-point, eight-rebound, four-assist effort to lead the Road Warriors past Alaska, 112-104, last Wednesday in their first game of the Governors' Cup.

He then submitted another all-around performance on Saturday, tallying 13 points, five rebounds, one assist, and one block as NLEX took down Kia Picanto, 100-93.

Alas edged out Phoenix guard RJ Jazul, Meralco's Chris Newsome, Rain or Shine's Maverick Ahanmisi, and Star veteran PJ Simon for the weekly citation.

Alas's strong performances early in the Governors' Cup bode well for an NLEX squad that is trying to bounce back from a woeful four-win total in the first two conferences of the season.

The Road Warriors shoot for a 3-0 start, which would be the franchise's first under Coach Yeng Guiao, when they take on Rain or Shine on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
