Lyceum improves to 4-0 with rout of Arellano
MANILA, Philippines – The best start in school history continues for the impressive Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates.
The Pirates overpowered the Arellano University Chiefs, 99-65, on Tuesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre to improve to 4-0 in the NCAA Season 93 men's basketball tournament – Lyceum's best start since joining the league in 2011.
"We want to keep on winning, and it's a result of our culture," said Lyceum coach Topex Robinson after the game. "Ang kalaban namin palagi is ourselves. The way we're going to manage our egos will be key for us."
CJ Perez recovered from a slow first half to finish with 16 points on top of three rebounds and two assists, while Jaycee Marcelino scored 13 points to go along with six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. His twin, Jayvee, contributed eight points and five boards.
Their 4-0 start matched the best winning streak in school history, when the Pirates also won four consecutive games in 2013 under Bonnie Tan.
It was a relatively low-scoring first half for the Pirates, as they settled for a 40-30 lead over the Chiefs at the half. Perez was limited to two points on one-of-seven shooting, with the Marcelino twins carrying the load for Lyceum with a combined 15 points.
