Kia import for PBA Governors Cup a shade above height cap
MANILA, Philippines – Kia Picanto has suddenly found itself in a tight situation as its import prospect Chane Behanan was measured over the 6-foot-5 ceiling for imports in the PBA Governors Cup that is already set to start on July 19.
“By 1/16 of an inch. Now we are having a hard time looking for a replacement because all the good players are now in the NBA summer league,” said Kia Picanto team manager Eric Pineda.
“Sana pinayagan na yun import namin. We are already a bottom rung team so 1/16 over the height limit will not give us any undue advantage,” Pineda also said.
Kia is now hard-pressed to find a replacement with six days to go before the tournament opener where the ball club is set to play the Phoenix Fuel Masters in the 4:15 p.m. curtain raiser.
The Columbian Autocar Corp. franchise initially brought in Brandon Beasley, whom the team cut just after four days of practice.
Beasley proved short, and Kia had to dismiss him as the ball club is after a big import to strengthen its frontline crew.
