In rare admission, Mayweather recognizes McGregor's advantages

Despite being unbeaten in 49 fights, Floyd Mayweather Jr. said he has plenty of reasons not to underestimate an inexperienced boxer such as Conor McGregor.

Mayweather insisted that, on paper, the Irish mixed martial arts superstar has every advantage over him.

“Everything leans toward him on paper,” he explained in an article posted on BoxingScene.com.

“He's bigger, he has a 74-inch reach, I have a 72-inch reach. I'm inactive. He's active. Youth is on his side. He's in his 20s, I'm in my 40s."

Mayweather came out of a 2-year retirement to meet McGregor in a boxing match that is expected to surpass the records he set with Manny Pacquiao in 2015.

"I'm just thankful for being in this position. To be able to be at this age [40] and still be competing against guys in their 20s. It's a blessing,” Mayweather said, adding that, although McGregor competed mainly in MMA, he pointed out that the Irish fighter spent those years standing up.

"He's a stand-up fighter. We've never seen him lose standing up, so he can fight standing up. That's one thing he can do. He feels like he's the best,” Mayweather added. “When I was competing I was the best. So I had to come back for this last hurrah."
