Sharapova awarded wildcard for Bank of the West Classic
STANFORD, CA - Maria Sharapova has been granted a wildcard for the Bank of the West Classic, which begins on July 31.
The former World No.1 has not competed in the United States since the 2015 Miami Open, and is returning to the tournament for the first time since 2011.
“I am excited to return to the Bank of the West Classic and would like to thank the tournament for giving me the opportunity to play,” said Sharapova.
The five-time Grand Slam champion recently confirmed that she would miss Wimbledon and the rest of the grass season due to injury.
