Pocari Sweat rules PVL Reinforced Conference

MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATED) Showcasing their fearsome firepower and superb defense, the Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors roared back from a slow start to take down Bali Pure and rule the 2017 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference.

Import Krystal Rivers was utterly unstoppable, Michelle Strizak was steady as usual, and local ace Myla Pablo came through with timely hits as the Lady Warriors rebounded from an opening-set loss to crush the Water Defenders, 20-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-19, in Game 3 of the best-of-3 Finals on Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The victory in the do-or-die match gave Pocari the inaugural PVL Reinforced Conference crown. They also won the same tournament in the Shakey's V-League last year.

Rivers, playing in her third and final game for Pocari Sweat, submitted her best effort with 27 points on 22 attacks, four blocks, and an ace. The Water Defenders, who frustrated the former Alabama standout in Game 2 last Tuesday, had no answer for her this time around as Rivers repeatedly soared above the Bali Pure blockers for powerful hits.

Strizak, who was named Best Import of the tournament, contributed 10 points, while Finals MVP Myla Pablo scattered 16 points.

Pocari Sweat was made to work for the title, as they dropped the opening set of the match. A 6-0 Bali Pure run midway through the frame, anchored by Jang Bualee and Grethcel Soltones, gave the Water Defenders enough cushion to hack out the 25-20 win and go up 1-0.
