NZ Select basketball team beat Chinese side Jiangsu

The New Zealand Select basketball team were given a much sterner test by host club side Jiangsu in the second game of their China tour.

As on the previous day when they beat Montenegro 83-64, Jordan Ngatai led the NZ Select in scoring. His 18 points were gathered at an efficient 8-12 from the field as his side pulled away late to win 84-65 on Saturday.

The victory was built around a dominant rebounding display, a stat they won 48-18 with 22 offensive boards. That was led by the USA college based pair Sam Timmins (five points, 12 rebounds) and Yanni Wetzell (11 points seven rebounds).

The Select team led 42-31 at halftime before a big second half saw the lead blow out.

Forward James Hunter was influential in the win with 17 points in just 16 minutes of action.

The team face Cameroon at 11pm on Sunday (NZ time).
