Bench Mob bailed SMB in Game 2
The San Miguel Beermen turned the tables on TnT KaTropa after falling behind 0-17 to start the first quarter and build leads by as much as 32 points in Game 2 of the 2017 PBA Commissioners Cup Finals.
Leading the SMB bench mob was Arwind Santos. He came off the bench and immediately scored 11 points in the first quarter. “Spider-man” led the charge, allowing the Beermen to trim the lead to 8 in the second period.
“Noong pumasok ako, wala pa kaming iskor,” said Santos. “Wala na akong ibang gagawin kundi magpakitang gilas.”
The Beermen were accustomed not to sit down until the team would be able to score their first points. With four minutes into the quarter, SMB players were still up standing.
“Noong una, cheer kami ng cheer. Napagod nga kami sa kaka-cheer sa gilid, eh. Mabuti nalang nakadikit kami pagkatapos ng second quarter.”
Amidst the pressure, SMB coach Leo Austria dared his team to try and shift the momentum sparked by Santos in the second quarter.
