Mayweather 'very' satisfied with purse percentage for McGregor showdown
Although Floyd Mayweather Jr. did not disclose the details of his fight purse with Conor McGregor, the world champion boxer said both parties are “very” satisfied with their expected paychecks.
In his first statement since the announcement of the event that has polarized fight fans, Mayweather said he came out of retirement because fans wanted to see him in action again.
“People all around the world demanded this fight so I had to give them what they wanted to see,” Mayweather told BSOTV.
“They asked for this fight. I was in retirement, but they wanted me back and I’m back.”
He added that although his opponent has yet to fight one bout in the pro ranks, he expects a hard-fought match against the Irishman. “McGregor is a tough competitor,” Mayweather said.
When asked how the earnings will be split, Mayweather was coy. The August cross-sport showdown is expected to surpass the 4.6-million, US pay-per-view record he set with Manny Pacquiao.
