TNT uses late surge to oust Ginebra, arrange title showdown with SMB
MANILA – Jayson Castro towed TNT past Barangay Ginebra, 122-109, in the PBA Commissioner's Cup at Cuneta Astrodome on Saturday to set a title clash with San Miguel Beer.
The KaTropa closed out their best-of-5 semifinal series, 3-1, despite playing all-Filipino most of the game in an effort to preserve Josh Smith, who played with a torn ligament in his right foot.
Castro had 38 points to go with his 11 assists and 7 rebounds, and engineered a 19-3 run in the 4th quarter to oust Ginebra.
Despite playing hurt, Smith still came away with 18 points.
Kelly Williams chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds, while RR Garcia and RR Pogoy came off the bench with 16 and 13, respectively.
TNT trailed Ginebra 106-103, with a little more than 7 minutes to go before the KaTropa launched their crippling run.
