Jordan call up big names for FIBA Asia Cup pool
AMMAN (FIBA Asia Cup 2017) - Head coach Sam Daghlas does not seem to be holding back as he has called up some big names to comprise Jordan's preliminary roster for the FIBA Asia Cup 2017.
The iconic former national team player has included old teammates Zaid Abbas, Mahmoud Abdeen, Ali Jamal Zaghab and Ahmed Al-Hamarsheh in the pool, while explosive guard Dar Tucker also got the nod as the team's naturalized player.
Abbas last played for the Jiangsu Tongxi club in the CBA, while Tucker saw action for Estudiantes in Argentina. Daghlas has also included marquee big men Ahmad Al-Dwairi and Mohammad Shaher Hussein, both of whom plied their trade in Europe. Al-Dwairi was part of Fenerbahce in Turkey, while Hussein played for FUS Rabat in Morocco.
There are also two players who have US NCAA experience in this pool - Sami Bzai, who already played for Al Nashama a couple of times, and Jordan Dasuqi, who will be suiting up for Jordan for the first time.
Most of those already mentioned (e.g. Tucker, Bzai, Hussein, Abbas, Zaghab, and Al Hamarsheh) played at the FIBA Asia Challenge 2016, while the other holdovers are Amin Abu Hawwas, Yousef Abu Wazaneh, Malek Kanaan and Mousa Al-Awadi.
Training camp and preparation games are soon to commence for Jordan's national pool before they plunge into action at the FIBA Asia Cup 2017 in Beirut, Lebanon. Jordan are in the same group as SABA champions India, returning Syria and perennial powerhouse Iran.
