Cruz, Tolomia, Ferrer get their chance in SEAG after missing out on SEABA
MANILA, Philippines – After missing a chance to represent the country in the SEABA Championships, the young Gilas Pilipinas trio of Mike Tolomia, Kevin Ferrer, and Carl Bryan Cruz were all given another opportunity by head coach Chot Reyes.
Reyes himself said that Tolomia, Ferrer, and Cruz were the "final cuts" for the SEABA team, which went on to win the gold medal last May to secure the Philippines' passage to the FIBA Asia Cup in August.
"If I had to choose 15, Kevin Ferrer, Carl Bryan Cruz, and Mike Tolomia would definitely be there," Reyes had said after officially unveiling his "SEABA 12."
A month later, the three young players are no longer on the outside looking in, as Reyes included them in the roster that will represent the Philippines in the Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this August.
They join a team that also includes SEA Games veterans Kiefer Ravena and Ray Parks, along with Baser Amer, Almond Vosotros, Von Pessumal, Kobe Paras, Raymar Jose, Troy Rosario, and Fil-German Christian Standhardinger.
For Ferrer, who will be competing in his third SEA Games, the feeling of playing in the regional tournament will never get old.
