Standhardinger, Hong Kong fall in OT to Saigon anew
Akeem Scott and super Saigon continue to have defending champion Hong Kong’s number in the 2017-2018 Asean Basketball League.
Scott dropped 38 points while also stuffing the stat sheet to tow the home team Heat past Eastern, 118-115, in another overtime classic on Sunday at the CIS Arena in Ho Chi Minh City.
For the second straight game, the two teams needed an extra period to settle the score.
There, the home team raced to a 5-0 start and a 108-103 lead they would nurse until Filipino-German Christian Standhardinger (31 points, 18 rebounds) pulled the defending champions to within 113-116 with 29 ticks to go on the clock.
Hong Kong would be unable to get any closer, however, as the Vietnamese defense forced a missed jumper from Marcus Elliott and then a turnover from Standhardinger the rest of the way.
