McKinney Registers Triple Double to Lead Chong Son, Dreamers Absorb Ninth Straight Loss

Chong Son Kung Fu got back on track in their ongoing ASEAN Basketball League season, picking up a 108-79 win over the Formosa Dreamers in in the Nanhai Gym, China.

The Kung Fu extended the on-going misery of the Dreamers, losers of their ninth consecutive loss. The China-based squad was led by another excellent performance from Heritage Import Mikh McKinney, who registered his first triple double of the season via a stellar 32 point, 11 rebound, 10 assist performance.

The Dreamers entered the match against Chong Son without their complete lineup. World Import Ronnie Aguilar missed the game because of a suspected join injury, which left new Dreamer Errol Maxey as their only available World Import. Exey joined the squad, replacing Lenny Daniel and made an immediate impact via scoring a game high 34 points and 13 rebounds for his squad.

Maxey was one of the few bright spots for the Dreamers as they fell behind by as many as 30 points to Chong Son Kung Fu. But it didn’t look like that in the beginning, as the Dreamers came out and took it to their opponents, via 10 points from Maxey in the first quarter. Formosa would take the lead entering the second period, 19-18.

Chong Son would regain their bearings in the second period behind their Import duo Justin Howard and Anthony Tucker. The inside-out attack, coupled with the sniping of McKinney from long distance gave Chong Son a 13 point lead entering the half, 50-37.

A Tucker triple at the 7:40 mark in the third period stretched Chong Son’ advantage to 20 points, 59-39. However Formosa would battle back, unleashing a 16-3 run to get within 8 points with 4:21 remaining.

But that would be as far as the Dreamers would get, as Kung Fu responded with their own 15-3 blast. Caelan Tiongson’s triple and a Howard layup book-ended the searing attack of Chong Son, as they increased their lead to 20 points after three quarters, 77-57.

Tempers began to flare in the final period, as Tucker threw an elbow to the Dreamer’s Li Ping Hung while he was being defended, sending the local player crumpling to the floor. Tucker was ejected after the flagrant foul, but the advantage of Chong Son was still too much for the visiting squad to overcome in the end. Tiongson and Shuai Song would handle the scoring for Chong Son down the stretch, as Kung Fu cruised to the 29 point win, 108-79.

Aside from McKinney’s stellar game, Justin Howard was just as effective, notching a monster double-double of 21 points and 20 rebounds. Tucker contributed 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists, Luo Yongxuan added 10 points, 1 steal and 2 block to lead the locals in scoring.

Playing without Aguilar, the Dreamers just didn’t have enough weapons in the game. Chen talied 19 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists, the only player aside from Maxey to finish in double digits in scoring. New Heritage Import Kenneth Chien had a quiet debut, as he scored a single point in 10 minutes of action.

Chong Son Kung Fu climbs to 7-2 in the standings, in solo second place. The Dreamers absorb their ninth straight loss and crash further to the bottom of the standings at 1-11.
