Arellano U punches return ticket to the Finals
Defending champion Arellano University booked its second straight championship appearance after a quick work of Jose Rizal University, 25-13, 25-20, 25-17, in the Final Four of the 93rd NCAA women’s volleyball competition at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Chiefs set up a best-of-three championship showdown against first time finalist San Beda University starting February 16.
Arellano U cruised in the first two sets before encountering tough resistance from the Lady Bombers, who were in their first semis stint since the return of their volleyball program in 2008. With the troika of Regine Arocha, Jovie Prado and rookie Necole Ebuen leading the way, the Lady Chiefs made their move midway in the third to walk away with a return ticket to the Finals.
Arocha led all scorers with 15 points from 12 spikes, two aces and a kill block for Arellano U. Arocha also contributed on defense with 15 digs and five excellent receptions.
Andrea Marzan had nine markers, Ebuen got eight while Prado and Mary Anne Esguerra chipped in with seven points each for the Lady Chiefs. Setter Sarah Verutiao got 39 excellent sets.
