Transferee Verutiao shines in NCAA debut for Arellano
MANILA, Philippines – Given the chance to start for Arellano University after starting setter Rhea Ramirez sustained a mild injury, transferee Sarah Verutiao shrugged off her nerves and came up with a memorable debut.
Ramirez was Arellano's setter when the Lady Chiefs made a remarkable run to the NCAA crown in Season 92, but a left shoulder injury forced head coach Obet Javier to sit out the playmaker for their first game of 2018 against the Mapua Lady Cardinals.
In her place, he sent in Verutiao, who played for University of Santo Tomas in UAAP Season 77 before transferring to Arellano last season.
"Sobra," Verutiao answered honestly when asked if she felt pressured at the start.
"Sinabi ko na, ako na 'to. Ito na ang pagkakataon ko na maglaro," she added.
