Perpetual, CSB eye top spot in NCAA volleyball
MANILA, Philippines – University of Perpetual Help and De La Salle-College of St. Benilde (CSB) will try to earn a share of the lead when they take on separate opponents in the NCAA Season 93 women's volleyball tournament on Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Defending champion Arellano University currently sits at the top of the league standings.
The Lady Altas got off to an impressive start as they downed Lyceum of the Philippines University in three sets last Sunday, while the Lady Blazers swept Colegio de San Juan de Letran last week to jumpstart their own campaign.
They will both go for a second consecutive win on Thursday, with Perpetual talking on San Beda College at 2 p.m., and CSB facing off against Lyceum at 12:30 p.m.
Macky Carino of Perpetual and Arnold Laniog of CSB were also impressive on their coaching debuts.
“We’ve set big goals for this year but initially, we want to make it to the Final 4 first,” said Carino, who was the coach when CSB won the women’s title two years ago before making a big jump late last year to take over from Sammy Acaylar.
