PBA finds no evidence that Guiao uttered racist remark
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) on Monday announced that it is fining NLEX coach Yeng Guiao and San Miguel Beer point guard Chris Ross, stemming from the flare-up between the two in the closing minutes of their Philippine Cup game last Friday.
San Miguel's 109-98 win over the Road Warriors was marked with several near skirmishes, notably between former collegiate teammates Kiefer Ravena and Von Pessumal, and Michael Miranda and Ross.
The most intense flare-up occurred towards the end of the game, however, when Ross and Guiao exchanged words near the NLEX bench. Both were whistled for technical fouls; it was Ross' second of the game and he was subsequently ejected.
Guiao was accused of uttering a racist remark and was clearly shown displaying his middle finger.
In a statement, the PBA announced that "the alleged racist remark attributed to Coach Guiao could not be established."
Guiao has already denied the allegation, and Ross has said that he does not want to discuss the issue anymore.
