MVP proud of Philippine basketball renaissance
MANILA, Philippines — Former Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president and basketball patron Manny V. Pangilinan is proud of the development of the sport in the country.
Pangilinan said basketball has come a long way in the Philippines since the FIBA suspension in 2005.
"I'd be lying if I knew what the future was when we started," he recounted.
"Those were the bleak days because the Philippines was suspended, the future was not so bright."
Thirteen years later, the Gilas Pilipinas program is experiencing success in different competitions, and the Philippines is set to host the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
