Magnolia careful not to take winless Kia for granted
Magnolia will bring a familiar mantra when it takes on a perennial bottom feeder on Wednesday — never underestimate Kia.
Coach Chito Victolero and his squad try to start the new year right, as the Hotshots battle the Picanto in the PBA Philippine Cup at Araneta Coliseum.
Tipoff is at 4:30 p.m., followed by the 7:30 p.m. game between Meralco and Alaska.
Magnolia is coming off an 89-78 defeat to Barangay Ginebra on Christmas Day, which means Victolero and his crew enter the Big Dome tussle having rested 16 straight days.
On paper, the Hotshots are favored to down Kia, but don't tell that to Victolero.
"Kia is a very dangerous team with the new coach and new system," Victolero in a story posted on the PBA website. "We expect a hard game and we need to be ready mentally and physically."
The long layoff helps some key Magnolia players properly heal their injuries. One such name is Jio Jalalon, who has been cleared to play following a procedure removing bone spurs.
