Is Jerwin Ancajas being molded into action-packed, ratings-friendly boxer?

MAGALLANES, Cavite—Coach Joven Jimenez wants to unveil a better version of Jerwin Ancajas, a more potent upgrade than the one that battered Jamie Conlan in Belfast last November.

That means a much more aggressive Ancajas capable of scoring more knockdowns to impress American fans.

“Gusto sana naming mahigitan niya ‘yung ginawa sa Belfast. Gusto namin siyang maging mas agresibo at mas masipag sumuntok,” said Jimenez, who oversaw Ancajas’ 6-round sparring session at Camp Survival in Magallanes on Friday.

“Gusto rin naming maging mabilis siyang mag-adjust kahit ano ang ibato ng kalaban niya.”

The Panabo City native is preparing for his much-awaited US debut against Israel “Jiga” Gonzalez on February 3.

He is coming off an impressive world junior bantamweight title defense against Conlan, who was previously unbeaten in 19 fights before losing to Ancajas.
