Ice Cold Heat Falls to Mono Vampire for Second Straight Loss
World Import Mike Singletary paced Mono Vampire in scoring, as he tallied 25 points and 8 rebounds. However the literal big difference in the game was Sam Deguara, who simply towered over the competition in 23 minutes, tallying 20 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks.
Deguara opened the first quarter with dunks and putbacks, scoring eight points in the period as the Heat were completely overwhelmed with his size. Mono Vampire raced to a 9-0 advantage, but the Heat would respond behind World Import Maxie Esho and Heritage Import Moses Morgan, as they trimmed the deficit to two points, 25-23 at the end of the quarter.
Despite the close first period, the second quarter would prove to be the undoing of the Heat. Their normally prolific shooting as of late was absolutely ice cold, as they shot a frigid 2/22 from the three point area, good for only 9%. Mono Vampire took advantage of the Heat’s shooting struggles, outscoring the Heat 20-9 in the second quarter. They shot 50% from the field at the half, and had 11 assists compared to only two for the Heat after two quarters.
Things would only get worse in the third quarter, as Singletary took over for the visiting Mono Vampire. He scored 11 points in the 3rd quarter, while Heat simply could not buy a basket. The lead of Mono Vampire ballooned to many as 28 points with Singletary and Heritage Import Paul Zamar recipients of zippy Jason Brickman passes.
The fourth quarter was more of the same, as Zamar’s seven points was more than enough to keep the Heat at bay. The Thai-based squad removed their starters with 3:48 remanining, emptying their bench to take care of business. The Heat would finally outscore Mono Vampire in a quarter 29-24, but it was far from enough to keep their opponents from taking impressive victory.
Zamar came on in the second half, finishing with 16 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists for Mono Vampire. Brickman continued to stuff the stat sheet with 6 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists.
The Heat were paced by World Import Maxie Esho’s 25 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals and 4 blocks. Current Heritage Import Player of the Week Mike Williams was silenced anew, as he was held to 5 points on 2/8 shooting.
The Heat wound up shooting 6/37 for 16% from the three point area, while Mono Vampire shot 8/22 for a 36% clip. Mono Vampire notched 20 assists compared to only 7 for the Heat.
Mono Vampire climbs to 8-4 in the standings at solo 3rd place. They will look to pick up its third straight win as they host the Formosa Dreamers on January 24.
The Heat settle for a 4-4 record and fall to 5th place in the standings. They return to action on January 28, as they are set to host Tanduay Alab Pilipinas.
