Alvarez burns EAC with 24, JRU wins back-to-back
Shola Alvarez picked up from where she left off the previous game, putting up another monster showing to power Jose Rizal University to its second straight win in a 25-20, 25-16, 25-16 demolition of Emilio Aguinaldo College Friday in the 93rd NCAA women’s volleyball competition.
The graduating hitter unleashed 24 points including 22 off kills in the Lady Bombers’ second straight win for a 2-1 win-loss record.
Alvarez, who posted a career-high 28 points in a five-set win over San Sebastian College last Monday, also chipped in on defense with 11 digs and eight excellent receptions for a complete performance.
JRU head coach Mia Tioseco considered their win against the Lady Stags that ended decades of futility over the Recto-based squad as fuel as they sparked a winning run.
“I think talagang malaking factor siya (panalo against San Sebastian). At least ‘yung mga girls nga (naniniwala) na kaya na nilang mag-compete,” she said. “I guess mas aggressive na sila. Hopefully, step by step (magtulu’y tuloy ang panalo).”
