Sta. Lucia rallies to stun Cocolife in five sets
MANILA, Philippines – Sta. Lucia stormed back from a sluggish start and unleashed a strong finishing kick to escape with a thrilling 23-25, 22-25, 25-12, 25-23, 15-7 victory over Cocolife in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Imports Bohdana Anisova and Marisa Field rediscovered their rhythm in time to help the Lady Realtors, who were unstoppable in the crucial stretch of the game.
With the victory, the Lady Realtors snapped a two-game skid and improved to 2-5. Their record puts them in good position to avoid a quarterfinals showdown with the top seed.
Sta. Lucia coach Jerry Yee said his team is determined to improve its record and hopefully gain some momentum heading into the sudden-death quarterfinals.
"The way our tournament is formatted, laging may chance pa tayo kahit nasa baba ng standings," he said.
