Soltones sanction puts spotlight anew on PSL-PVL rift

MANILA, Philippines — Grethcel Soltones' banning by the Philippine SuperLiga is the latest chapter in the PSL's rift with rival league Premier Volleyball League.

The two leagues have been have been embroiled in different issues, albeit indirectly. Here are among the notable ones:

Several players have been caught in the middle of the rift between the (former Shakey's V-League) Premier Volleyball League and the Philippine Superliga.
1. Pau Soriano and Lilet Mabbayad's suspension

Pau Soriano and Lilet Mabbayad were the first players to be suspended and fined by the PSL for violating the organization's “One League policy.”

Both players saw action with Standard Insurance-Navy in the 2016 PSL All-Filipino conference.

Standard did not field a team in the succeeding conferences, and both Soriano and Mabbayad suited up for Bureau of Customs in the PVL (then Shakey's V-League) Reinforced Conference in 2016.

Customs went on to notch the runner-up trophy, with Mabbayad netting the 2nd Best Middle Nlocker award. Soriano is now playing for PVL team Creamline.
