Kiefer calls on Ateneo Blue Eagles not to waste 13-1 UAAP season

MANILA, Philippines – Former Ateneo de Manila superstar Kiefer Ravena exhorted the Blue Eagles to play with an increased sense of urgency in their do-or-die game on Wednesday, as they run the risk of squandering a splendid 13-1 elimination round campaign in UAAP Season 80.

Ravena was among those who watched on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum as the Blue Eagles succumbed to Far Eastern University (FEU), 80-67, in their Final Four match-up. That allowed the fourth-seeded Tamaraws to force a winner-takes-all game on Wednesday, with the triumphant team advancing to face De La Salle University in the best-of-three finals.

"There's no turning back," said Ravena, who won two championships on top of two MVP trophies during his celebrated career as a Blue Eagle. "You don't want to waste a 13-1 season because of two 'off day' games."

Ravena pointed out that virtually the same thing happened to Ateneo in Season 79: They were stunned by FEU in the first game of the Final 4 but they managed to hack out a close win over the Tamaraws in the do-or-die game.

He can only hope that the Blue Eagles have learned from what happened to them last season, even as Ravena also expects FEU to once again come out strong on Wednesday.
