Isaac Go repays coach Baldwin's trust with clutch heroics

MANILA, Philippines—The Ateneo Blue Eagles spoke Isaac Go's overtime-forcing three-pointer into existence.

With 14.5 seconds left to play and the Blue Eagles trailing 75-72 against Far Eastern University, coach Tab Baldwin called his final timeout in regulation. According to Sandy Arespacochaga and Thirdy Ravena, he informed Go: "You're going to make this three."

Days after a bungled play against La Salle became a low point in his career, Ateneo center Isaac Go picked himself up to become the hero against FEU on Wednesday. Arvin Lim, ABS-CBN Sports
Go would not make a liar out of his head coach. Running a two-man play with Matt Nieto, Go received the ball beyond the arc, set his feet, faked to get Ron Dennison out of the way, then fired up a three. Splash.

It was his lone bucket of the fourth quarter, but it tied the game at 75 with 8.5 seconds to play. He would add a defensive stop on the other end, bothering Arvin Tolentino in the dying seconds, to force overtime.

For Go, his clutch triple was borne out of the trust given to him by his coaches and his teammates – a trust that did not waver even after he bricked a potential go-ahead jumper against rival De La Salle University in their final game of the elimination round.
