Conlan admits brawling may not work vs Ancajas
Irish challenger Jamie Conlan admitted his brawling ways won’t be enough to beat a polished boxer like world junior bantamweight king Jerwin Ancajas.
The “Irish Gatti” personally witnessed Ancajas dismantle Japan’s Teiru Kinoshita in 7 rounds in Brisbane last July, and knows that the Filipino boxer is no ordinary fighter.
“His training time was the same time as Michael, so I seen him working out a bit,” said Conlan in Boxing Scene.
“My dad [amateur coach John] sat down and watched a bit of him on YouTube and he’s a very good operator. He’s world champion for a reason and in a division that’s pretty hot and heavy, he’s up there with the best of them, so it will take the very best of me to beat him.”
Conlan said beating Ancajas means modifying his fighting style for this particular bout, which will take place at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Ireland on Sunday (Manila time).
