Ateneo eyes sweep, La Salle in survival mode as finals head to Game 2
MANILA, Philippines – Another gritty, physical encounter is expected between Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University, as the long-time rivals tussle anew in Game 2 of the UAAP Season 80 finals on Wednesday at Araneta Coliseum.
The Blue Eagles seized a hard-fought 76-70 win in Game 1 last Saturday for a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series, with several players stepping up in crunch time for the squad.
Another win over their rivals on Wednesday will give Ateneo its first title since 2012, when it won the last of five straight UAAP championships under the leadership of Norman Black.
Game time is at 4 p.m., following the awarding ceremony where the season's best performers will be recognized at 2:45 p.m.
"This is where the chess game comes in," Ateneo coach Sandy Arespacochaga said, referring to Game 2. "La Salle will make their adjustments, so we have to be able to read their in-game adjustments and try to adjust to what they're going to do."
