Ancajas batters Conlan to defend IBF world title in Belfast

MANILA- IBF world super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas showcased that he is the complete package following a masterful performance to defend his title by technical knockout against previously unbeaten Jamie Conlan, Saturday night (Sunday morning PHL time) at SSE Arena in Belfast.

Ancajas, 25, wasted no time mixing it up and putting pressure on his foe in the opening round. Conlan was reduced to a knee halfway through the first round after the Filipino landed a clean left straight to the mid section.

Conlan was sent to the canvas for the second time in round three after a barrage of body shots from Ancajas. In round 4, the Irish took another knee after receiving a hard left to the body. Ancajas sent his foe to the canvas the following round using the same shot, but the ref ruled it a low blow and even deducted a point from the Filipino.

A clean counter-right hook from Ancajas knocked down the local fighter for the fourth time that night, prompting the referee to halt the contest at the 0:52 mark of round six. The TKO victory improved Ancajas’ record to 28-1-1 with 19 knockouts while Conlan tasted his first defeat as he fell to 19-1 with 11 knockouts.
