2-time MVP Mbala also gets Player of the Week nod

MANILA, Philippines – On top of clinching a second consecutive Most Valuable Player award, De La Salle University star Ben Mbala was also named the UAAP Player of the Week in the final week of the Season 80 elimination round.

This, after "Big Ben" refused to let their archrivals, the Ateneo de Manila University, go through the express lane to the Finals.

Scoring 28 points on 10-of-20 shooting while adding 19 rebounds, six steals, and six blocks, Mbala helped the Green Archers edge the Blue Eagles, 79-76, and deny their rivals' bid for a 14-0 elimination round sweep.

With his dominance on both ends of the court, Mbala snagged the last Chooks-to-Go UAAP Press Corps Players of the Week citation, besting Paul Desiderio of University of the Philippines, Steve Akomo of University of Santo Tomas, and Arvin Tolentino of Far Eastern University.

Mbala's value for La Salle was in full display in their game against Ateneo. The Cameroonian bruiser kept the Green Archers in the game after they fell behind by as much as 12 points in the fourth quarter.
