Tankoua nearing peak form for San Beda

MANILA, Philippines – After his breakout season was cut short by injury last year, San Beda College big man Donald Tankoua has been quietly working his way back into peak shape for the Red Lions.

Tankoua tore the ACL in his right knee during a game against Emilio Aguinaldo College in San Beda's 11th game of Season 92. The Red Lions still went on to win the championship last year, but the Cameroonian was forced to watch at the sidelines.

So far in Season 93, he has been solid but rarely spectacular, averaging 8.3 points and 6.8 rebounds in 20.2 minutes per game for the defending champions.

On Tuesday against University of Perpetual Help, however, Tankoua displayed shades of the form that made him an MVP candidate last year. He scored 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting, grabbed nine boards, and had a steal and a block.

More impressively, he limited Perpetual Help center Prince Eze to only eight points and 11 rebounds, well below his usual numbers of 16.1 points, 17.7 boards, and 2.5 blocks per game.
