Sigh of relief for Pumaren after Adamson survives UST

MANILA, Philippines – For almost 39 minutes, the Adamson University Soaring Falcons were at risk of losing to the woeful University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers.

With a golden opportunity to fortify their Final 4 campaign against a winless team, the Falcons instead struggled to put the Growling Tigers away. The contest featured seven ties and 16 lead changes, and it was not until the final minute Adamson finally secured the win.

It took a difficult runner from Jerrick Ahanmisi for Adamson to go up 70-66 with just under a minute left, and UST deflated from then on, allowing the Falcons to hack out a 75-70 win.

"Actually, we're just lucky to survive this game. We flirted with disaster by playing lackluster," said Adamson coach Franz Pumaren after the contest.

It was clear that Pumaren was dissatisfied with the victory, even as it hiked Adamson's record to 7-4 and pushed them closer to a spot in the Final 4. For the veteran coach, it was obvious that the Soaring Falcons sorely underestimated the Growling Tigers.
