San Sebastian routs Perpetual, forces 3-way tie for 4th place
MANILA, Philippines – San Sebastian College is assured of a playoff for a Final 4 spot after crushing University of Perpetual Help, 80-60, in the final elimination round game of the NCAA Season 93 men's basketball tournament on Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
RK Ilagan made five of his nine three-pointers for 23 points, while Michael Calisaan contributed 21 points and 10 rebounds as the Stags finished the elimination round with a 9-9 win-loss record.
That allowed them to tie idle Arellano University and Colegio de San Juan de Letran in the league standings. Due to a superior quotient, however, the Golden Stags have one foot in the Final 4 door, and will await the winner of the knockout game between the Chiefs and the Knights for the right to clinch the last semifinals spot.
The winner of that knockout game will then advance in the step-ladder semifinals against third-seeded Jose Rizal University, with the winner playing defending champions San Beda College for the right to play unbeaten Lyceum of the Philippines University in a best-of-three finals series.
"I think ito na 'yung bunga na pinaghirapan ng mga bata. At least nakarating na kami rito. 'Yung pressure na may chance kami makapasok ng Final Four, I guess it’s a good learning experience sa mga players," said San Sebastian coach Egay Macaraya.
