Ranking Movers: Mladenovic moves into Top 10 for first time
Kristina Mladenovic makes her first appearance in the Top 10 in the latest set of WTA Singles rankings, jumping up three places from 13th in a year where she reached a career-best quarterfinal in the French Open. She also made finals in Acapulco, Stuttgart and Madrid as well as winning the title in St. Petersburg. There were big jumps for German pair Julia Goerges and Carina Witthoeft following tournament victories in Moscow and Luxembourg respectively.
With the leading players resting up ahead of the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global, there was little movement among the higher reaches, with the top seven remaining as they were - including Simona Halep at World No.1. Caroline Garcia continues to benefit from her stunning end to the campaign with a further rise to eighth, while Johanna Konta also moves up a place, remaining behind the Frenchwoman in ninth.
Anastasija Sevastona and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova both rise into the Top 15, and Ashleigh Barty also makes the Top 20.
Here are some of the other most notable ranking movers this week:
Julia Goerges (+9, No.27 to No.18): The German maintained her recent consistency, beating Daria Kasatkina to win the VTB Kremlin Cup last week. This followed her last 16 appearance at the US Open as well as finals in Washington, Bucharest and Mallorca in 2017.
Lesia Tsurenko (+7, No.50 to No.43): Ukranian reached the last eight of the VTB Kremlin Cup this month, having made the same stage in Stanford, the semifinals at 's-Hertogenbosch and Hobart and winning the title in Acapulco.
Irina-Camelia Begu (+12, No.56 to No.44): A re-entry into the Top 50 for the Romanian, whose final four appearance in Moscow last week came after winning the title on home soil in Bucharest as well as a final at Southsea and another semifinal in Istanbul.
Carina Witthoeft (+22, No.73 to No.51): Another German to end the campaign in fine form, winning her maiden WTA title in Luxembourg last week. The 22-year-old also has quarterfinals in Gstaad, 's-Hertogenbosch and Nurnberg to her name in 2017, as well as a semifinal appearance in Budapest.
Pauline Parmentier (+19, No.101 to No.82): The Frenchwoman made the semifinals in Luxembourg last week, to go with her last-four appearance at Contrexville. The 31-year-old also made the quarterfinals in Bucharest and Acapulco this year.
