Petron wins second straight, SLR drops back-to-back games

Unbeaten Petron recovered from a third set slump to turn back Sta. Lucia, 27-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-14, Thursday night in the 2017 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Blaze Spikers rediscovered their service reception that was missing in the third frame to build an early lead in the fourth and cruise to their second straight win in as many outings.

“Sa amin good thing lang na naka-survive kami kahit na honestly speaking hindi yun ang gusto naming makita,” said Petron coach Shaq Delos Santos. “Pero good thing nako-control namin and nanalo pa rin kami.”

American imports Lindsay Stalzer and Hillary Hurley uncorked 29 and 27 points, respectively, to lead Petron, which hammered 70 kills.

Stalzer scored all but one of her points from attacks while Hurley got 25 spikes while adding 10 digs and 10 excellent receptions for the Lady Blazers.

Mika Reyes added 11 points while setter Rhea Dimaculangan tallied 34 excellent sets.

After controlling the first two sets, Petron dipped in its performance in the third as the Lady Blazers fell behind, 18-20. Petron fought back to take a 22-20 lead only to see the Lady Realtors take next five points capped by back-to-back kill blocks by 6-foot-5 SLR Canadian reinforcement Marisa Field.
