Pasaol shines as UE piles on UP's woes
MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATED) Alvin Pasaol battled through exhaustion and cramps to power University of the East (UE) to a crucial win over University of the Philippines (UP) on Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Pasaol came through with 32 points and 13 rebounds, and the Red Warriors came away with a much-needed 73-64 win over the Fighting Maroons that kept them in the hunt for a spot in the Final 4 of the UAAP Season 80 men's basketball tournament.
The Red Warriors improved to 3-7, having won three of their last four games since opening the season with six consecutive defeats.
"I think we did a great job defensively. We had three guys na we just have to try to contain – si (Paul) Desiderio, (Jun) Manzo, and (Ibrahim) Outtara," explained UE coach Derrick Pumaren.
"We wanted Outtara to be out of the ball game, kasi he did a lot of damage… it was a great effort for the guys," he added.
