MVP race least of concerns for Lyceum's Nzeusseu, Perez
MANILA, Philippines – As a team, the Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates have made plenty of history in NCAA Season 93.
A thrilling 107-105 win over defending champion San Beda College last October 19 gave the Pirates a perfect 18-0 record at the end of the elimination round – the best elimis record of any team in NCAA history.
Individually, two of Lyceum's players can also earn their place in the league's history books. Center Mike Nzeusseu and star guard CJ Perez are two of the top contenders for the Most Valuable Player award, after leading the Pirates throughout their campaign.
Nzeusseu, last season's Rookie of the Year, is averaging a double-double of 11.4 points and 11.8 rebounds per game, despite playing only 24 minutes per game. Perez, meanwhile, has all-around numbers of 19.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.9 steals per game.
For both players, however, winning the top individual award in the NCAA is far down in their list of priorities.
