Lady Chiefs sweep Lady Falcons for third place finish

Arellano University claimed the third place trophy with a 25-22, 25-19, 19-25, 31-29, win over Adamson University in Game 2 of the best-of-three battle for bronze Saturday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Lady Chiefs salvaged a podium finish despite playing without top hitter Jovielyn Prado, who was in uniform but stayed on the bench to rest a sore right knee.

Regine Arocha took over the scoring role for Arellano as 2nd Best Outside Spiker award winner scattered 19 points off 16 kills and three aces while chipping in on defense with 17 excellent receptions and 10 digs.

Andrea Marzan smashed in 14 markers from 10 attacks, an ace and three kill blocks including the match-clinching denial to end the one-hour, 48-minute joust while Necole Ebuen got 10.

With Arellano up, 2-1, in the match, the two squads engaged in a mad scramble to the finish in the fourth set that resulted in six deuces. A service error by Joy Dacoron broke the last deadlock at 29 before Marzan sealed the third place finish for the Lady Chiefs with a solid kill block on Bernadette Flora.
