Konta ends season, announces mutual split with coach Fisette
World No.10 Johanna Konta put an end to her 2017 season on Wednesday, announcing that she will not compete in the WTA Elite Trophy after missing out on qualifying for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global.
The British No.1 also announced that she and coach Wim Fisette have mutually agreed to part ways after less than a year together.
"After careful thought and discussion, Wim Fissette and I have mutually decided to end our working relationship," Konta said in a statement on Wednesday.
"Things ended very amicably and I wish Wim all the best. We’ve achieved a lot together and I want to thank him for all his patience, hard work and expertise."
Konta and Fisette partnered up ahead of the 2017 season, as the Belgian who had previously worked with Kim Clijsters, Victoria Azarenka and Simona Halep helped take the Brit to new heights this year.
"My hitting partner Andrew Fitzpatrick, my strength and conditioning specialist Gill Myburgh, my physio Milly Mirkovic and my mental coach Elena Sosa will continue to support me," she said. "I feel very excited and optimistic about the future and very committed to improving and becoming the best tennis player that I can be."
Konta announced that she will not be traveling to Singapore, where she would be in position as the first alternate, for the WTA Finals, or Zhuhai for the WTA Elite Trophy.
Konta won her biggest career title at the Miami Open in March, reaching the last four at Wimbledon and rising to career-high No.4 in the rankings.
However, she ended her season on a five-match skid, and saw Caroline Garcia leap her for the final qualifying place in singles at the WTA Finals with title runs in Wuhan and Beijing.
"My foot is improving but it is still advisable to rest it further so unfortunately I will not be travelling to Singapore or to the WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai. Both are amazing events and I will really miss being part of them but I want to make sure that I am fully fit to start preparations for what I hope will be an exciting 2018 season."
