CEU star Rodrigue Ebondo receives national team call-up in Congo
MANILA, Philippines – Centro Escolar University big man Rodrigue Ebondo has received a call-up to play for the Democratic Republic of Congo, school officials announced on Thursday.
The 6-foot-6 Ebondo, who was briefly part of the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas squad that competed in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, will be asked to suit up in the 2017 FIBA African Qualifiers.
The tournament starts on November 24, with Congo bracketed in Group C along with Angola, Morocco, and Egypt.
Congo is ranked 87th in the world and 14th in Africa.
Given this development, the Scorpions will have to find a way to sustain their success without the big man. CEU is currently one of the top teams in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League.
