LINZ, Austria - Mihaela Buzarnescu came through in three sets against the returning Belinda Bencic, beating the Swiss 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(4), to reach the semifinals of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz.

The Romanian has enjoyed an impressive run in the tournament so far, beating fourth seed Anett Kontaveit in straight sets before defeating Alja Tomljanovic in another three-set encounter.

Mihaela Buzarnescu came through in three sets against the returning Belinda Bencic, beating the Swiss to reach the semifinals of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz.
"The first match point, I should have won, because that's when I had a good chance to win it," she admitted afterwards. "Then she was playing really good on all my match points, so aggressive as well, but she had really good tactic on all my match points."

Bencic, the former World No.7, had reached the quarterfinals by beating Spain's Lara Arruabarrena in a lengthy three-set match.

The Swiss played her first WTA match since April in the Linz first round, having taken three months off for surgery to her left wrist.

"It was such a heartbreaking loss," Bencic admitted afterwards. "I really appreciate that though it's hurting me, I played an amazing match. I was fighting until the end, until I couldn't any more. It was unfortunate today, and probably not meant to be."
