UST's Basibas: 'Di kami nawawalan ng pag-asa'

MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas (UST) has not made it easy for their opponents in the UAAP Season 80 men's basketball tournament, but for all their efforts, the Growling Tigers have yet to notch a breakthrough win.

Instead, UST suffered yet another heartbreaking loss on Wednesday, bowing to National University (NU), 94-84, after squandering a lead in the fourth quarter and wasting Reggie Basibas' career-best 23-point game. The loss dropped the Growling Tigers to 0-3 in the tournament.

Basibas, who made 9-of-13 field goals on top of eight rebounds and three steals, was obviously disappointed after seeing his remarkable performance go for naught. He had made life miserable for NU's back-up big men in the third quarter, but fouled out with three minutes left as UST collapsed.

"Hindi naman sa (umaangal) ako sa mga referee, pero ang lambot kasi ng tawag sa amin eh," he lamented. "Na-(talo) kami sa turnover. Sayang, 'yun kasi 'yung (inaatake) talaga sa amin eh. Kapag pine-pressure na kami, lumalamang na 'yung kalaban."

One game after committing a stunning 41 turnovers against Adamson University, UST gave up 29 turnovers against NU, which led to 23 easy points for the Bulldogs.
