UST’s Akomo, UP’s Ouattara get go-signal to play
The UAAP board has reversed the decision of the league's eligibility committee thereby allowing foreign players Steve Akomo of University of Santo Tomas and Ibrahim Ouattara of University of the Philippines to play this season.
The eligibility committee cited the two-year residency rule in coming up with the first ruling.
The board's decision was finalized in a meeting on Thursday at Far Eastern University, the host school this season, citing the interest of justice and fairness.
"We thank the UAAP (board) for its kindness and generosity. It is heartwarming to know that it has the best interests of the student-athletes in mind, despite the obviously competitive environment," said UP Fighting Maroons head coach Bo Perasol.
UP and UST are set to face each other 2 p.m. Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.
