Undermanned FEU bounces back, sweeps JRU
MANILA, Philippines – Far Eastern University recovered from a slow start to roll past Jose Rizal University, 28-26, 25-14, 25-14, and boost its Final 4 bid in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Without star spiker Bernadeth Pons, the Lady Tamaraws groped for form early, and clearly felt the rust from an 11-day layoff.
They stumbled against the Lady Bombers in the opening frame, barely pulling through in the extension. But they imposed their will in the next two sets to complete the straight-sets victory.
The Lady Tams thus rebounded from a loss to National University in their previous assignment, and hiked their record to 3-1. They are now tied with idle Ateneo at second place, just behind the unbeaten Lady Bulldogs (4-0).
FEU closes out its elimination-round campaign against Lyceum on Monday.
