Tabora, Jumapao cop BWC titles
NATIONAL bowlers Krizziah Tabora and Jomar Jumapao took different routes Wednesday to bag the 2017 BWC (Bowling World Cup) national titles at Paeng’s Eastwood Bowl and earn a trip to Hermosillo, Mexico.
Tabora, 26-year-old winner of the same crown in 2012, bounced back from a first-game loss to down many-time international titlist Liza del Rosario, 2-1 (225-266,238-193, 236-179) in the ladies’ finals.
“I was so happy and excited,” said Tabora, 13th finisher in the 2012 BWC international tournament in Wroclaw, Poland who brought home a bronze medal from last month’s Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
She topped the quarterfinals with 6034 pinfalls and then knocked out fellow PH bowler Alexis Sy, 2-0 (228-135, 182-165) to advance to the finals against Del Rosario, who ousted last year’s champion Lara Posadas, 2-0 (246-178, 207-183) to arrange the showdown with Krizziah.
Jumapao, sales rep of family-owned firm Coolspot Specialists, felt so excited after getting his first BWC national crown on his first try. “Masaya talaga ako, but I’m not too satisfied with my shots. I have to work on them in preparation for the Mexico competition,” added Jumapao.
