Star's farewell gift to Kia? A 47-point shellacking
Kristofer Acox led 7 Star players in double-digit scoring with 19 points, and Marc Pingris reached a scoring milestone as the Hotshots routed Kia 128-81 in the PBA Governors' Cup at Mall of Asia Arena on Friday.
Jio Jalalon added 15 points and 7 assists for Star, which raised its record to 6-4 and stayed in the hunt for a top-4 spot and a twice-to-beat bonus.
Pingris, who finished with 12 points, became the 85th member of the 5,000-point club, achieving the feat with a breakaway dunk with 10 seconds left in the game.
Star stormed out of the gates to grab a 22-11 lead and never looked back in the wire-to-wire win.
According PBA statistician Fidel Mangonon III, Star's 47-point win matches the largest margin of victory this season, tying the Hotshots' own mark in a rout of Meralco in the Philippine Cup on January 28.
