San Beda secures Final 4 bonus after beating Arellano

MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATED) Defending champion San Beda College is assured of a twice-to-beat edge in the Final Four after defeating Arellano University, 83-72, in the NCAA Season 93 men's basketball tournament on Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

In a rematch of last season's finals, the Red Lions pulled away in the fourth quarter to extend their winning streak to 12 games and improve to 13-1 this season, while also dealing a blow to the Chiefs' own hopes of making it to the semifinals.

Arellano, who lost to San Beda in two games last year, dropped to 5-9 in the men's basketball tournament and will likely need to sweep their remaining assignments just to keep their Final 4 bid alive.

San Beda got it done through another balanced effort, led by a career-best 14 points from Jeramer Cabanag. Javee Mocon had 14 points, seven boards, and five assists, while Robert Bolick flirted with a triple-double with 13 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists in 37 minutes of action.

"As what I've always said to my players, we only have to take care of ourselves," said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez after securing the semifinals bonus. "We cannot pray for other teams to lose and for other teams to win."
