Risk of forfeiture is least of Rob Ricafort's concerns

MANILA, Philippines – The University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons were well aware of what they were risking when they sent in Rob Ricafort to play in the second quarter of their UAAP Season 80 game against De La Salle University.

Originally declared ineligible to play this season, Ricafort got his opportunity after the team secured a temporary restraining order (TRO) that allows him to see action for UP – at least, for the next 20 days, which is how long the TRO is in effect.

Ricafort played ten minutes and 50 seconds and scored two points in UP's massive 98-87 upset of the defending champion Green Archers – a victory that is now at risk of forfeiture, should the TRO be found void.

"Should the TRO be invalid and void, there will be a possibility that the games will be forfeited," warned UAAP Commissioner and Executive Director Atty. Rebo Saguisag ahead of the UP-La Salle game on Saturday.

"I cannot and will not restrain him from playing," Saguisag had stressed. "But they should be made aware, and they were made aware, that they assume the risk."
