NU's Alejandro focuses on positives after season-high output goes to waste
MANILA, Philippines – National University (NU) team captain J-Jay Alejandro chose to look on the bright side after his finest scoring performance of UAAP Season 80 was wasted in a loss to Adamson University.
After struggling to find his mark in their first three games of the tournament, Alejandro went off for 25 points on 10-of-20 shooting against the Soaring Falcons on Sunday. He also added seven rebounds and four assists to his production.
Unfortunately, Alejandro was the lone NU player in double-digits. Their next leading scorer was Senegalese center Issa Gaye, who only had eights points. Their other usual scorers, Dave Yu and Matt Salem, combined for six points in the 83-76 loss.
"Naka-execute naman kami," Alejandro noted after their defeat. "'Yung game plan namin, na-execute namin. 'Yung tumalo sa amin ay 'yung little things, like si (Jerie) Pinggoy, mayroong six steals at na-convert lahat."
Given the result of the game, Alejandro was mostly ambivalent about his scoring output. "Hindi ko naman kaya mag-isa," he pointed out.
